Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
An important political figure said the attack left him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
