The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Get comfortable with your loved one and watch Together. The 2025 indie hit just made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. On the surface, it could look like standard body horror, but within Together exists a deep meditation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when the couple transition from the urban environment to the countryside for her career. A familiar narrative setup, sure, but that’s primarily where the tropes cease. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the two discover an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a strange force takes hold of the duo. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a methodically building of scares, interspersing elements of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes during something disturbing). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and presents them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He is terrified of the notion of totally forfeiting his individual identity in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie refrains from painting one partner or the other the obvious villain.

The couple confront the kind of problems that come with long-term unions over a long period. Fundamentally, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these fears of codependency and giving oneself over to another person, the metaphor does not come across as hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. On the other hand, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is currently playing on Hulu now.
